The Top 10 films from The Shine Shootout 2026 will be screened at the Armitage Centre on 7 August, with prizes and awards presented for outstanding storytelling, creativity and achievement.

#Do you have a story to tell?

The Shine Shootout invites students, creators, community groups and aspiring filmmakers from across regional Queensland and beyond to create a short film in just six days.

Following the release of the competition theme and challenge requirements on 1 August, teams will have until 12 noon on the 6 August to write, shoot, edit and submit their film. 

No filmmaking experience required. Smartphones are encouraged, and a practical workshop will be held before the challenge to help participants develop their skills and ideas.

Queensland Fringe is a new arts festival launching in 2026 that will see The Empire transform into a two-day hub of creative activity, giving audiences the chance to experience an exciting mix of comedy, music and live performance, while also providing a platform for emerging local artists to showcase their talents alongside established performers.
