#About the artwork

For thousands of years, my people walked these lands in harmony with the land.

We sang songs and danced to honour our beautiful animals and culture. Often, we embody our Yurees (totems) and proudly sing out to country, for our connection is strong.

Likewise with The Empire, performance was an important element of our culture.

For centuries, people would gather here at the Bunya mountains and exchange cultural knowledges, this is illustrated in this work; where people from different countries, dance to show off their country and identity.

#Expressions Of Interest: RAPIAC Committee

Applications close: 5pm, Monday 25th May 2026

We are taking expressions of interest from members of the First Nations community in the Toowoomba Region to join The Empire’s Reconciliation Action Plan Implementation and Advisory Committee (RAPIAC).

About The Empire

The Empire is regional Australia’s largest performing arts precinct, boasting several performance and function spaces. Annual attendance is over 130,000 across more than 800 events. Renowned for its classic art deco architecture, the heritage-listed theatre is an A-class performance venue. It is wholly owned by Toowoomba Regional Council and managed on its behalf by Empire Theatres Pty Ltd.

About The Role

The Empire is seeking 1–2 community members to join the RAPIAC and contribute to this important journey. The committee meets quarterly to plan, draft and review the RAP, as well as provide input into programming decisions. A sitting fee is available for non-salaried committee members.

Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs) enable organisations to sustainably and strategically take meaningful action to advance reconciliation, and The Empire is currently implementing a Reflect RAP, with Board and staff committed to progressing to an Innovate RAP in 2026/27.

These are identified First Nations roles. Applicants must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.

The Empire is an Equal Opportunity Employer that provides an inclusive work environment and embraces the diverse talent of its people. We value people of all cultures, languages, capacities, sexual orientations, gender identities and/or expressions.
