Artists Highlighted in Regional Collaboration

The Southern Queensland Regional Arts Services Network (RASN) will shine a light on talented artists across Southern Queensland with the creation of a high-quality publication aimed at celebrating the spirit and stories of Southern Queensland art and culture.

Planned for distribution by May 2025, Under the Southern Sky – Arts and Culture of Southern Queensland will showcase the vibrant, talented artists living and exhibiting across Southern Queensland.

The publication will include a mixture of short and long form feature articles highlighting selected artists from each local government area across the Southern Queensland network.

The Southern Queensland Regional Arts Services Network (RASN) services 16 local government areas, spanning from the Gold Coast to Thargomindah, a Queensland Government initiative proudly delivered by The Empire.

To complement the work of the publication, a Southern Queensland directory of artists will also be developed – a low-cost opportunity for creatives to be included as an addendum to the publication, providing access to artist information including location, medium, and contact details, increasing visibility and connection to future projects.

Southern Queensland Regional Arts Services Network (RASN) Regional Manager Michelle Blair said the document would shine a spotlight on the variety of artists and creatives living and working across Southern Queensland.

“We are looking forward to the opportunity to showcase the amazing communities in Southern Queensland and highlight the hard work being done by these incredible creative people,” Mrs Blair said.

The Southern Queensland region spans a very large geographical area with environments ranging from subtropical coastal islands and wetlands, the scenic Bunya Mountains, open skies of the Western Downs through to the thick mulga scrub and red dirt of the Quilpie Shire.

"Under the Southern Sky will reflect the diversity of these communities; from creative projects that address community wellness and have large social impact, to stories about professional artists that are forging strong careers in the arts while living in regional Queensland.”

Artists and creatives can submit a listing in the Southern Queensland directory of artists via an online form, now open on The Empire's website.
