#Big feelings, belly laughs, and enough aunty wisdom to last a lifetime.

In this cheeky and heartfelt cabaret, Papuan-Australian songstress Heru Pinkasova goes searching for answers through the songs and stories of the women who shaped her life. Along the way, she visits legendary Aunties including Billie, Dame Kiri, Jessye and Dolly.

With her powerhouse voice, soulful tunes and divine beats, Heru reimagines songs across opera, soul, cabaret and contemporary genres, creating surprising musical connections, unexpected moments of joy, and a celebration of the women whose voices continue to guide us.

Thursday 06 August - 8:00pm

Opera singer Heru Pinkasova’s powerfully rich voice ... was spellbinding, her arias hypnotic and an absolutely regal presence on stage.

If a lioness could sing she would sound like this

Wow wow wow. I feel like my eardrums have just been given a delightful, melodic pounding.

The moment Aunty Heru steps onto the stage her charisma and confidence are felt.

Nothing Ever Happens in Brisbane

If traditional theatre isn’t your taste, then ‘Songs my aunties taught me’ might provide the alternative that you’re searching for. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the mash up of styles worked together to create an energetic and captivating performance that succeeds at its familiar genres while managing to stand out on its own.
