This year, Floral Friday is back to kick off Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers in spectacular style, with the Toowoomba region bursting into bloom!
Floral Friday is a chance to welcome spring and showcase our region’s love for this iconic event, bringing colour, creativity and Carnival spirit to every corner of Toowoomba.
The Empire is getting into the spirit, with Toowoomba artist Chelsea Baker bringing her stunning Seedpod display to the front facade window display. Working under the name Hello Chelsart, Chelsea paints Australian seedpods by hand, giving the quiet forms left behind once flowers have gone their own ‘Second Bloom’ through colour.

#Meet the artist
Chelsea Baker is a Toowoomba artist with a background in multimedia design, environmental design and architecture. She paints Australian seedpods, the quiet forms left behind once the flowers have gone. Working under the name Hello Chelsart, she calls this their Second Bloom: nature's overlooked pieces reimagined in colour.
Her seedpods come from all over Australia, gathered on walks, passed on by friends and fellow collectors, or sought out for their shape. They are studied closely and painted by hand, their natural structure left to guide the design. That is what co-creating with nature means to Chelsea: nature makes the form, she answers it.
The result is a practice built on slowing down and looking closely, and a reminder that things do not stop being beautiful when they stop flowering. It is a slow, deliberate way of noticing, a kind of mindfulness found at her feet, and an invitation to see beauty in what has finished blooming.
