For the first time since the grand re-opening in 1997, the Empire Theatres are throwing open the doors on this Sunday to give the community a rare chance to peek behind the curtain.
The Open Day celebrates the 20th Anniversary Season of the Empire Theatre.
Open Day will give those familiar with the theatre and perhaps those who aren’t so familiar the opportunity to take in performances, workshops, screenings, tours and demonstrations, children’s activities and face painting.
Between 10am and 3pm on June 25, members of the public can take in performances by the Australian Army Band-Brisbane, Cool Nights Big Band, dancer Jacob Watton, and many more local dance and singing groups.
For those who prefer a hands-on approach, Erth’s Puppet Making Workshops will give participants unique new skills or a contemporary dance workshop with Jacob Watton, Youth Arts Workshops and Stage Make-up demonstrations will also be on offer.
Historical and technical tours will allow a look behind the scenes and into the inner workings of the theatre throughout the day, as well as memorabilia and costuming on display.
The youngest patrons are not forgotten, with free face painting, interactive treasure hunts inside the theatre, Storybook Theatre Workshops of popular books that have been converted to stage performances and roving Erth’s Dinosaur Puppets wandering the precinct throughout the day.
Food and drink options will be available on site.
Bookings are highly recommended for Australian Army Band Brisbane and the Erth’s Puppet Making Workshops.
