The Empire Theatres are thrilled to announce an incredibly talented lineup of local performers who will take the stage for the 2017 major production, Wicked.
Wicked takes the classic story behind The Wizard of Oz and flips the perspective, telling the previously untold story of the Witches of Oz.
Following unlikely friends Elphaba and Glinda as they overcome rivalry, envy and ambition in the face of a corrupt government, Wicked proves the world we came to love in the original tale may not be all it appears to be.
Experienced musical theatre performer Louise Fraser will take the stage as the iconic green-skinned witch Elphaba, following from her exceptional performance as the Baker’s Wife in Toowoomba Choral Society’s (TCS) production of Into the Woods earlier this year.
Louise is no stranger to the stage having performed the lead role of Grizabella in the highly successful Empire Theatres 2009 production of Cats, as well as roles in The Wiz, The Beggar’s Opera, The Land of Shush, Sweet Charity, Chicago and many more.
Mary Poppins leading duo, Shannon Gralow and Justin Tamblyn return as the bubbly and popular Glinda and charismatic love interest Fiyero.
After taking on the title role of Mary Poppins in 2015, Shannon performed as Cinderella in the TCS production of Into the Woods, and previously performed as Meg Giry in the Empire Theatres production of The Phantom of the Opera in 2014.
She also excelled with leading roles in Singin’ in the Rain, Cats, Dusty: The Original Pop Diva and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.
As an Empire Theatre newcomer who was extremely popular in the role of Bert (Mary Poppins) , Justin’s extensive dance experience with Raw Dance Company, Harvest Rain’s Hot Shoe Shuffle and Brisbane-based group, Those Tap Guys quickly saw him become a local favorite and this year bring life to the role of the Baker in TCS’s Into the Woods.
Joining them is Kingaroy performer Brad Boynton as The Wizard, Toowoomba performers Joanna Pearson as Madame Morrible, Sarah Hendon as Nessarose, Mike Esober as Boq, Lachlan Schoenfisch as Doctor Dillamond and Jayden Blaxland as Chistery.
Wicked is proudly sponsored by Heritage Bank and will be performed at the Empire Theatre from Friday 31 March to Sunday 9 April next year. Tickets for Wicked are now on sale.
