Two local music teachers will lead a sensational cast with the presentation of classic family musical, Mary Poppins at the Empire Theatre from May 28, 2015.
Experienced musical theatre performer and local violin teacher, Shannon Gralow will take on the title role of Mary Poppins, following on from her recent role as Meg Giry in the Empire Theatre’s The Phantom of the Opera and previous leading roles in Singin’ in the Rain, Cats, Dusty: The Original Pop Diva and Rodger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.
Joining Shannon as Bert is newcomer to the Empire Stage, Warwick teacher Justin Tamblyn, who has extensive dance experience with Raw Dance Company and performances with Harvest Rain’s Hot Shoe Shuffle.
The Phantom of the Opera’s leading duo Brendon Walmsley and Lisa Skerman reunite as George and Winifred Banks along with the double casted roles of Michael and Jane Banks to be played by Lauren Baryla, Sophie Little, Harry Panitz and Alexandr Little.
Director Alison Vallette said the interest in the production from the local arts community had been excellent.
“As with all the Empire Theatre productions, audiences can expect a production that is of a high standard, with an all singing all dancing cast that will leave them singing as they leave the theatre,” Ms Vallette said.
“There will be a few tricks and surprises along with way.”
“Creating the magic that is necessary for Mary Poppins will be a challenge, but my ongoing discussions with our fabulous designer Bill Haycock are really exciting and we are working through how the magic will happen, but trust us, it will!” she said.
Mary Poppins is proudly sponsored by Heritage Bank and will be staged at the Empire Theatre stage from Thursday 28 May to Sunday 7 June next year. Tickets are now on sale.
