Queensland Symphony Orchestra Brings Movie Magic

Bring the whole family, sit back and share the magic of classical music from the big screen with Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s Movie Masterpieces on August 21.

It’s hard to imagine great movies without their equally great soundtracks. Modern composers have set the tone for countless films, including John Williams for Star Wars and the Harry Potter series, or Ennio Morricone for The Mission from which the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) will perform the famous melody, Gabriel’s Oboe.

QSO CEO Sophie Galaise said music was an integral part of every film.

“Any time a film director wants to tug at the heart strings or get audiences to sit on the edge of their seats – they use music to do it,” Ms Galaise said.

“For me, whenever I hear great soundtracks, I’m instantly transported. Music is just so expressive and vital to the meaning of the movie.

“With melodies so sublime and orchestral show pieces so exhilarating, this concert defines the music of our times.

“We’re thrilled to bring the QSO to the Empire Theatre to present this memorable program of great film soundtrack highlights.”

QSO’s Movie Masterpieces concert will feature much loved and cheeky conductor Guy Noble and guest vocalist Louise Dorsman, with solo performances from QSO’s Concertmaster Warwick Adeney and Principal Tuba Thomas Allely.
