The Toowoomba Arts Footprint Artists in Residence program is a residency opportunity designed to fill an identified gap in career pathways, income security and professional development opportunities for emerging and established artists in regional Australia.
Three $20,000 grants will be awarded to emerging or established artists, working and living in regional, remote or rural Queensland participating in a paid month-long residency.
“The program was born out of a desire to create creative arts collaboration opportunities for Cobb & Co Museum, the Empire Theatre and Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery and has been proudly supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland,” explains Regional Arts Officer – Southwest Qld, Michelle Blair.
The Toowoomba Arts Footprint creates a link between these three wonderful venues, with the successful projects selected having relevance to audiences on different levels.
Dr. Dennis Campbell, Chair of the Friends of Cobb & Co Committee, and recipient of the $60,000 Arts Queensland grant for the project, said he is anticipating some great displays of creativity.
“This project is a very exciting opportunity for three Queensland artists to make something truly special.” Dr. Campbell said. “$20,000 to make a project of the artists’ choice is unheard of in our region, and we look forward to being surprised and inspired by out of the box, creative applications from regionally and rurally based artists and artisans.”
Part of the program will also provide opportunities for the community to engage in skill building activities in art forms such as performance art, visual arts, music, film making, skilled trades and First Nations disciplines.
