KINKY BOOTS CAST ANNOUNCED

The newly announced cast of the Empire Theatres 2019 major production, Kinky Boots are hard at work on a sparkling story that proves that sometimes the best way to fit in, is to stand out.

Kinky Boots is an exhilarating new musical with a score by pop icon Cyndi Lauper, knockout dancing and an inspiring story following Charlie Price, an aspiring young businessman.

When Charlie suddenly inherits his father's bankrupt shoe factory, he finds unexpected inspiration in the form of Lola, a fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos. As Charlie and Lola work to turn the factory around, this unlikely pair finds that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible... and discover that when you change your mind, you can change your whole world!

Leading the cast is Toowoomba Grammar School graduate Sean Johnston as Charlie and professional musical theatre performer Timothy Springs as Lola.

Sean and Timothy are also joined on stage by Georgia Spark (Lauren), Sophie Kleinschmidt (Nicola), Isaac Brown (Don), Mary Quade (Pat), Vicki Bravery (Trish), Russell Reynolds (George), Richard Chiverrell (Mr Price), Justin Tamblyn (Harry / Blue Angel) and a highly talented ensemble.

Some younger local actors will also appear on stage with George Lawrence and Patrick McCarthy-Cole sharing the role of Young Charlie, while Darcy Meagher and Tui Rei will bring Young Lola to life.

A professionally working American born actor, Timothy Springs has performed all over the world, most recently as part of the cast of The Book of Mormon in Australia.

As a big fan of the musical, Timothy said Kinky Boots was a beautiful story about being who you want to be. It reminds people to be kind to each other, open your mind and accept that everyone is different and that’s ok!” he said.

“I love that Lola doesn’t care what anyone else thinks. She exudes confidence and loving energy.

“I see a lot of myself in Lola and I’m hoping to bring an open and honest character to Lola so that people really understand the journey that it took to become her.

“I’m looking forward to working with this awesome cast, seeing kids watch this beautiful story unfold and finding themselves in some part of it.”

Sean Johnston, who is about to commence musical theatre studies at the Queensland Conservatorium is thrilled to jump into the role of Charlie.

“Charlie seemed like a young and fun character and once I read that the role required a rock belt, I knew it would be a fun part to sing,” Mr Johnston said.

“He just seems like a character that I can really get into and I can’t wait to get started.”
