Prince Edward Island’s The East Pointers were named Ensemble of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards in Toronto on Saturday 3 December for their beautifully immersive debut album Secret Victory.
The East Pointers have toured tirelessly and consistently spanning Europe, USA, Canada and Australia since the release of their debut album Secret Victory in 2015. Ontario guitarist Jake Charron and 7th generation Prince Edward Island musicians Tim (fiddle) and Koady Chaisson (banjo) make traditional music seem ridiculously hip. An adrenalized, roof-rattling, performance monster, the trio’s excellent debut album Secret Victory was penned mostly while touring in Australia.
Even before releasing Secret Victory, The East Pointers knew they were onto something, having accepted the 2015 Music P.E.I. Award for New Artist of the Year, and Roots Traditional Recording of the Year awards. They were also nominated for Traditional Instrumental Recording of the Year at the 2015 East Coast Music Awards.
They've since been awarded Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2016 Edmonton Folk Festival, won Touring Artists of the Year at the 2016 Music P.E.I Awards, and won Ensemble of the Year at the 2016 Canadian Folk Music Awards.
